Last night our friend that is tour guide, Gummi, called and told us to get our coats on he was picking us up in a few minutes. He took us out to the Eyjakjallajokull Volcano and we were able to get about 2.5 miles from it. We were in his 4x4 and we went through a river and up these rocky roads. We were just below the glacier where the lava had melted the ice when the volcano erupted and caused all the water to flood. As it got dark we could actually see the glow from the lava and we could see lava shoot into the sky. We tried to take pictures, but I don't think we had the camera on the right settings for dark and distance. Anyway, we were up close to the famous volcano, heard the rumblings, and actually seen lava shooting up. What an experience!

There is the glacier in the middle just below the steam and smoke.
